# IN:

Input systems: readings, screenings + [aesthetic/technosocial/conceptual/art-historical] skills
+ toolSets to be determined + distributed by jonCates Assistant Professor in the department of
Film, Video and New Media.

# OUT:

Output systems: 01 completed New Media work that functions as a game in a fully realized state as to be defined by the terms + parameters set by the participants. standard of completion to be arbitrated by particpants.

# REFERENCE

Reference signals are intended to help articulate the basis + influences which impact ([computer/video]) game-art culture as a [concept/construct], [art-as-game/game-as-art] as a category of artmaking + playFull, playMe as a course.

# GAME.DEV:

we will be [discussing/developing] [art-as-game/game-as-art] in an art hystorical framework in relation to {screen|time|code}-based experimental media art (from Cinema + Film Art to Video Art + Digital Art) + as social technological concept/construct.

# PLAY:

playFull, playMe's [art-as-game/game-as-art] will be disscussed in relation to game theory + New Media art cultures.

# I/0:

# INPUT:

students will be expected to use [technologies/systems] which are [demonstrated/discussed] in
class. these [technologies/systems] will incl various forms of game developmentusing ActionScript + Flash, level [+/or] sprite editing, Open Source game engines, etc....

# OUTPUT

# CHALLENGE

students will take an existing rule set, i.e. the rules of any given game + then re{write|code} those rules so as to change game play + challenge the power dynamics.

# MINI GAME

students will individually or collaboratively develop a MINI GAME within the framework
of the concerns, concepts + systems presented in playFull playMe.

# EXCLUDE:

there will not be any tests or any assigned technical excercises.

# EVALUATE:

we will critique all student projects twice (as a class) + i will address projects + students
individually throughout the semester.

# PARAMETERS

class will meet every MON from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 PM, with a one-hour break for nutrients, with
the exception of Graduate Critique Week.

attendance + punctuality are required. 3 absences == NO CREDIT. 2 lates == 1 absence.

30% techno-social skillset development
